These processes could be learning (acquiring information and how to use or apply it), reasoning (how to think and reach conclusions) and self-correction. Particular applications of AI include expert systems, speech recognition, and machine vision.
Being a branch of computer science, artificial intelligence (AI) is sometimes called machine intelligence. Simply put: Wit, reasoning, understanding, comprehension or actions demonstrated by a machine that is not natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals is Artificial intelligence. Most people hear of AI and think, it could only be ‘robots’; but really any machine or computer that has a reactive resemblance to human actions can be classified as AI.
Tasks that would require “intelligence” are often removed from the definition of AI as Machines have become increasingly capable: this phenomenon is known as the AI effect. This effect operates in the sense that whatever one model of AI can do now, a newer model may have been created with additional functionalities the prior does not possess. For instance, optical character recognition fast became a rampant technology and now it is easily excluded from being acknowledged as AI. In recent times, machine capabilities that are quick AI references include successful human speech comprehension and somewhat accurate response, competing at the highest level in strategic game systems (such as chess) , autonomously operated cars, military simulations, and intelligent routing in content delivery networks (like map direction assistants).
Differentiating the forms of AI
Coming to a definite answer of what the official types of AI are is a ball game. Some will classify them as three, four, or even more; as analytical, human-inspired, and humanized artificial intelligence or reactive, self-aware, limited, mind theory. Pegging a name to each is somewhat important but the take home should really be the descriptions without a spotlight on the number of AI types there are or name confusions.
- There are Machines characterized by almost all types of competencies like emotional, cognitive, and social intelligence has the ability to self-conscious and participative in interactions with others. These machines are fashioned according to a human’s mind theory and its ability to make decisions is almost at par with that of a human mind. This AI description may be similar to voice assistants which are programmed to speak and give information from its inbuilt programs but it is not characterized by almost all other types of human competencies.
- The most basic and probably the first known semblance of AI system are reactive machines. These machines will only act when triggered and their acts are based on streamlined to a particular task. They cannot form memories or use past experiences to influence present-made decisions; they are only capable of responding to current situations. An instance is Checkers or chess, computer games that require two players. Gurus found a way to fill up the void of a second player with the option of a computer player. The computer player only reacts when the human player selects that option and the computer will use pre-existing memories of the game to play against the human and possibly win. Another existing form of a reactive machine is Deep Blue, a chess-playing supercomputer created by IBM in the mid-1980s. These AI models cannot function beyond the simple tasks for which they are programmed.
- The most anticipated AI displaying machines would be ones that have human-level consciousness.it is expected that this kind will bear the closest resemblance to a human, physically and intellectually. This AI includes machine ability to feel, desire, think and react independently. Currently, this AI is not in existence but continuous advancement in technology may bring this idea of AI to life. Only a mimic can be achieved in my opinion because a bunch of things humans do cannot be replicated. Machines cannot cry with tears, eat food or experience metabolism that would lead to defecating and many other things you can think up. This AI is supposed to be a form of advancement and extension of the AI that resembles the human mind.
- Another form of AI is machines that do more than just react but possess a retentive memory of patterns, events or information that was previously embedded in them. The data in the machine’s memory from its program or previously observed actions enable it to build experimental knowledge. Autonomously controlled vehicles are an existing form of this description. How these types of vehicles work: you input a location and intended destination and prompt your vehicle to go to that destination, automatically. The driver of such a vehicle needs not to drive manually. Since the machine is built with limited memory, this exhibition of AI by an autonomous controlled device is only possible through a combination of observational data, inbuilt data the machines already contain. However, the sample pieces of information applied are not permanent.
There are different classifications of AI based on how technology has evolved over time. The more research and experiments go on the more innovations, modifications, and creations. Artificial intelligence is such a broad but interesting subject, you may look forward to more pieces on it.
