One of the longest-running cryptocurrency exchanges Bitstamp, has hired a Wall Street veteran Hunter Merghart and former Coinbase executive for the position of head of U.S. operations. In Merghart’s response statement he said: “This is an amazing opportunity for me to take what I’ve learned in both traditional finance and crypto to a larger role where I can help grow the U.S. business of the largest European crypto exchange.”
Merghart was the head of trading at Coinbase in San Francisco but had quit for about six months before the new hire. Merghart is to lead the opening of the Bitstamp exchange’s New York office that received a BitLicense from the state last month. The Bitcoin exchange space is definitely widening in the United States as this mark the 19th company to obtain a BitLicense in New York alone.
A trusted report last year rounded up the largest cryptocurrency exchanges based on the volume and estimated revenue data collected with Bitstamp on the list. Many crypto exchange platforms are continuously working at expanding in the USA, Asia and even Africa. Although no African platform made it to the list, Investors and startups will hopefully pick up their pace in the light of another big step for this major contender.
