Block.one is a multibillion-dollar startup brain behind the EOSIO platform. Now it has become the latest blockchain firm with social-media aspirations as announced on Saturday. Their new platform is called Voice and they say that it will stand out by not turning its users into products. According to the CEO of Block.one, Voice will run on the EOS blockchain, using the public chain; everything posted to EOS will be public, and it is important to note also that the blockchain is being upgraded to a faster Version 2.0. It may be interesting to note also, that EOS only had six months in which to build up a user base. After a yearlong ICO built block.one a multibillion-dollar reputation from the over $4billion funds raise for Block.one; EOS officially launched on June 15, 2018.
CEO Brendan Blumer spoke in a release at the event in Washington D.C :
“Our content. Our data. Our attention. These are all incredibly valuable things. But right now, it’s the platform, not the user, that reaps the reward. By design, they run by auctioning our information to advertisers, pocketing the profit, and flooding our feeds with hidden agendas dictated by the highest bidder. Voice changes that.”
According to Blumer, the CEO he said to the crowd at their event: “Our attention has been captured,” “Social media has not been a good friend to us.” Also made were promises that Block.one’s new social media product would not let algorithms decide what dominates. He stated that everyone would have an equal shot to be heard. “Everyone – the user, the platform, the contributor – plays by the same rules,” Blumer said. Further stated was that Voice will do a better job of keeping out bots and trolls than previous social networks, although he didn’t expressly describe how the mechanics of their platform will do so.
Dan Larimer, Block.one’s CTO was a previous co-founder of a blockchain-based social media site, Steemit, till he left for Block.one in 2017. At the event in Washington he also spoke and announced a new ‘Voice token’: “Social media was intended for good,” said Larimer, “Everyone who signs up for Voice will get an EOS account,”
Away from the EOS blockchain Larimer announced another made: EOSVM. “This is a web assembly engine designed specifically for blockchain,” Larimer said, promising it would run 12-times faster than the original EOSIO software, which was released on June 1, 2018. Conclusively Larimer said “We can’t wait to see what people will do with it,”
This is a show of a blockchain related company delving into the social media space and ironically, or in a different direction, leading social network in the world, Facebook announced earlier this year it would move into operating with its own traditional coin among other things in the blockchain direction.
